BOWDOIN — A young Bowdoin resident is hoping to get some help from the community Sunday to restore the Hillsbury Cemetery as part of his Eagle’s Scout Project.
Jacob Ross, 17, is a member of Bowdoin’s Boy Scout Troop 639. He will be at the cemetery at 1085 River Road on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will return the following Sunday, Nov. 12.
Ross will be there, rain or shine, power or not, barring pouring rain. He is accepting any and all help. He hopes to get a crew since as part of the project, he must show leadership skills.
Gloves are highly recommended and tools such as garden tools, shovels, hoes, rakes, loppers, soft bristle brushes, pry bars and anything that can be used to clear an overgrown, neglected area.
There is no running water at the cemetery so Ross will bring buckets of water.
The Hillsbury Cemetery is very old with headstones dating back to the 1700s.
