BIDDEFORD — Stephen E. Randall, 64 of Biddeford passed Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House Scarborough with his family by his side.

He was born in Biddeford on Sept. 29, 1953 the son of Ralph and Evelyn Caron Randall.

Stephen grew up in Biddeford, attended local schools and graduated from Biddeford High School, Class of 1972.  He then attended and graduated from Southern Connecticut State College (SCSC), now University) in 1976 with a degree in Health Sciences.

Stephen’s lifelong passion of men’s and boy’s gymnastics was ignited during his high school years, participating in the Biddeford High School Gymnastics team then coached by “Wink” Houghton and Bob Libby.

It was to continue during his college years under the tutelage of head coach Abe Grossfeld, himself an Olympic medalist during the 1950s and 1960s.  Steve was a specialist in the floor exercise event.  Upon graduation, Steve served as assistant to Coach Grossfeld for four years.

What was to follow was 41 years of a passion for gymnastics which brought him across the USA, Canada, the Virgin Islands and Bermuda, cultivating life-long friendships along the way.

Also, during this time, he designed, built, owned and operated Randall’s Gymnastics in Biddeford.  Consulting and designing other gymnastic gym layouts was to remain one of his many strengths.

Steve’s other passion was golf.  Wherever his gymnastics travel took him, there was always time carved out for golf.

He was a long time member of Biddeford Saco Country Club, where every Sunday during the golfing season he played in what has become known as the “Cheddah” with his many lifelong golf friends. Also, Steve loved the fact that he “aced” four times in his golf career.

“Coach Steve” most recently taught at Gymnation formerly of Kennebunk, Maine (now Saco) and Yellow Jackets in Middleton, Massachusetts. “Coach Steve’s” primary message to his students throughout his career was: “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do what you do.”

Stephen is survived by his wife Paula Osher of Biddeford; a brother Kenneth Randall of Kennebunkport; and a sister Shirley Bourgault and her husband Robert of Biddeford; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
