HARPSWELL

Electricity was once again restored to Bailey Island in Harpswell Saturday evening.

High winds on Friday morning knocked power lines along the Cribstone Bridge connecting Bailey and Orrs islands into the water.

The outage occurred less than two weeks after a tropical storm knocked out power to more than 400,000 CMP customers. Strong winds returned again to Maine Friday, causing more outages.

Speaking Friday, CMP spokeswoman Gail Rice said Friday afternoon customer outage totals had been hovering around 20,000, peaking at around 25,000 shortly before noon.

Rice said with the wind whipping and the tide coming in, no repairs could be done in Harpswell Friday afternoon, and couldn’t perform the repairs at night.

CMP was set to have contractors start work at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday during low tide.

Harpswell’s town office posted a thank-you on its website to CMP for restoring the power at around 6 p.m. Saturday.
