KENNEBUNKPORT — York County Community Action Corporation’s 3rd Annual Ceilidh and Silent Auction was a major success, organizers say.

Held  Nov. 3 at the Nonantum Resort, the event was the second major YCCAC fundraiser of the year, the Cupcake Wars, held at Nasson Community Center in May, was the first. Proceeds from the Ceilidh and Silent Auction will benefit YCCAC programs and services for York County seniors and children.

“It was a terrific night for all,” said Brad Bohon, YCCAC Communications Director. “We had a nice turnout, and the auction was especially robust, with more than a hundred items up for bid.”

A ceilidh, pronounced, kay-LEE, s a social event at which there is Scottish or Irish folk music and singing, traditional dancing, and sometimes storytelling.

The YCCAC ceilidh included music by the Press Gang, a Portland-based band that performs the instrumental dance music of Ireland on fiddle, accordion, and guitar. Dancers from the Seacoast Set Dancers, led by Sue Dunlavey, helped those unfamiliar with Irish dance steps on the dance floor.

“We are deeply grateful to the many donors who provided gifts for our auction,” Bohon said. “With each donation, and with the number of guests who turned out for our fundraiser, we’re reminded again of the broad support of our programs by so many individuals, businesses, and other non-profit organizations, in York County and beyond.”
