The University of New England men’s ice hockey team took its only lead of the game late in the third period and held on for a 3-2 Tuesday night final against Bowdoin.

The Polar Bears fell to 1-2, while the Nor’Easters climbed to 3-3-1.

Bowdoin opened the scoring with a power-play goal 8:06 into the game. Chris Wallace collected the puck behind the net and fed Daniel McMullan above the right faceoff circle. McMullan buried the puck inside the near post for a 1-0 lead.

Tied 1-1, Ronnie Lestan regained the lead for Bowdoin with 57 seconds remaining in the second period.

The Nor’Easters took their only lead with six minutes to play in the third. Ryan Bloom skated behind the net, circling toward the right post and found Brady Fleurent on the same side. The junior wristed a close range shot in for the 3-2 lead.

Bowdoin plays Saint Anselm College on Saturday (1 p.m.) in the opening game of the Bowdoin/ Colby Faceoff in Waterville.
