There, you will see a somewhat unusual sight — an American flag, crafted of horseshoes, sporting 50 cut-out stars.
It is the creation of Kaysia Carroll, a student at Massabesic High School.
She’s a member of a local horse club, so Carroll had a ready supply of horseshoes.
She welded them together to make a flag for her classroom since there wasn’t one.
Then she drew the stars on a metal sheet, and meticulously cut them out, one by one, using a plasma cutter — her first time using that piece of machinery, she said.
Carroll, 17, said she’s not sure what she’ll do in the future — she may work for a large York County manufacturer but she’s also eyeing veterinary school.
The Lyman student said it took her two weeks to fabricate the flag,
Now it’s in a place of honor in the classroom.
