Richmond opened its new season in the Mountain Valley Conference with a 64-54 victory over Madison in a boys high school contest on Friday.
The 1-0 Bobcats host Mountain Valley tonight at 7 p.m., while the Bulldogs are 0-1.
Richmond led 19-12 after a quarter, 32-26 at the half and 48-41 after three.
Matt Rines had a monster game in the win, scoring a game-high 32 points. He nailed four 3-pointers. Zach Small chipped in 22 points, six rebounds and four steals, while Casey Gorman had eight points. Dan Stewart pulled in 16 rebounds.
Sean Whalen led Madison with 17 points, with Evan Bess picking up 16.

The visiting Eagles made new coach Jeff Hogan a winner in his debut with a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference win over Leavitt on Friday in Turner.
Trailing 16-15 after a quarter, Mt. Ararat claimed a 30-26 halftime lead and extended out to a 50-41 edge through 24 minutes. A 24-9 spread in the fourth quarter allowed the Eagles (1-0) to pull away.
Tanner Greenleaf led the win with 17 points and three steals, while Austin Damon added 13 points and Kyle Brennan nine. Jared Balser had eight points and like number of rebounds, with Ryan Mello adding six rebounds and four steals. The Eagles were 6-of-10 from the freethrow line.
Wyatt Hathaway paced Leavitt (1-0) with 12 points, with Josh Banks adding 10 and Mark Herman nine.
Mt. Ararat visits rival Brunswick on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The host Falcons exploded out to a 28-5 first-quarter lead and never looked back in a Western Maine Conference on Friday over the Hawks (0-1).
Freeport (1-0) hosts Yarmouth on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
The Falcons led 45-12 at the half and 63-17 after three.
Eriksen Shea paced the win with 16 points, while Colby Wagner picked up 10, and Toby Holt and Gabe Wagner split 18 points. Freeport finished 12-of-21 at the line.
McGwire Sawyer led Sacopee Valley with 16 points.

The Greyhounds controlled the first half, but the Ramblers owned the second en route to an MVC win on Friday at Winthrop.
Lisbon, 0-1 and slated to host Boothbay tonight at 7 p.m., led 19-15 after a quarter and 28-19 at the half.
But, Winthrop (1-0) used a 32-13 third quarter to take a 51-41 lead heading to the fourth. The Ramblers outscored the Greyhounds 19- 2 in the final frame.
Jonah Sautter had 20 points in the loss, while Sean Scott finished with 11 and DJ Douglass six.
Cam Wood paced Winthrop with 20 points, followed by Jared McLaughlin with 13 and Ryan Baird with 12.

The visiting Breakers called an opening-game victory over Seacoast Christian on Saturday.
Seacoast (0-1) led throughout the first half, carrying a 17-15 advantage after a quarter and 30-25 lead at the half.
Pine Tree Academy (1-0) rallied from there. The Breakers used a 7-0 spurt, taking a 44-42 edge after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth.
Jared Tamalea’a had a game-high 31 points along with 10 rebounds in the win, while Alex Schlisner chipped in a double-double with 14 points and 13 boards.
Jet Archer led Seacoast Christian with 28 points.
The Breakers visit AR Gould on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
Girls hoops
SOUTH HIRAM — Taylor Rinaldi scored 17 points to power Freeport to a 55-30 WMC season-opening win over Sacopee Valley on Friday.
The 1-0 Falcons host Yarmouth on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
Freeport jumped out to a 17- 4 first-quarter lead, led 34-10 at the half and 46-17 after three.
Newcomer Alex Goodman had 11 points and Lindsey Routhier added 10 in the victory.
Kylie Day paced the Hawks (0-1) with eight points.

The visiting Hornets jumped out to an early lead and pulled away for a KVAC win over Mt. Ararat in Topsham on Friday.
Leavitt (1-0) led 18-7, 38-15 and 53-23 at the quarter breaks.
Sophie Gilbert picked up a game-high 26 points in the win along with nine rebounds. Jayden Carpenter nailed a pair of treys and finished with 12 points.
Theresa Breed led the Eagles (0-1) with 21 points and seven boards. Kyla Greenleaf and Caitlyn Smith split eight points down the middle, with Jaden Lohr leading with five rebounds.
Mt. Ararat visits Brunswick on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The Ramblers jumped ahead 15-6 in the opening frame and slowly pulled away for an MVC at Lisbon on Friday.
The Greyhounds (0-1) visit Boothbay on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Aaliyah Wilson-Falcone had a game-high 15 points in Winthrop win, with Jillian Schmeizer adding 13 and Kena Souza nine. The Ramblers were 10-of-17 from the free-throw line.
Charlee Cox and Giana Russo paced Lisbon with nine and eight points, respectively. The Greyhounds struggled from the charity stripe, going 9-of-21.

Bailey Dunphy had 12 points and teammate Melanie Clark 11 as the visiting Cobras down the Wolverines in season opening MVC play on Saturday.
Carrabec (1-0) led 10-6, 23-12 and 31-16 at the quarter breaks.
Grace Webber powered Wiscasset (0-1) with 10 points and six rebounds, with Sydney Thayer adding six points, eight boards, three assists and four steals. Maeve Blodgett chipped in five steals.
Girls hockey
GORHAM — Beth Labbe tallied a hat trick to lift Brunswick to a 5-1 victory over Gorham/Bonny Eagle/ Massabesic on Saturday at USM Arena.
Labbe added an assist for the Dragons (1-4), with Madeline Berry chipping two assists. Elena Palmer and Emily Factor tallied a goal apiece.
Colleen McKearney and Shea Sullivan were solid defensive for Brunswick, while freshman goaltender Hanna Wentsorth made 21 saves for her varsity victory.
Carson Baitaglea had the lone goal for the hosts.

Yarmouth/Freeport (0-5-1) failed to hold a two-goal first period lead as Biddeford/ Thornton Academy/Wells (3- 2) battled from behind for a win at Biddeford Ice Arena on Saturday.
Lilly Weinrich and Lily Caulfield scored for the Clippers for a 2-0 lead.
Katie Monson cut the deficit in half by the end of the opening frame, and Paige Boudreau tied the game in the third before ending the contest in overtime.
The Clippers visit Mt. Ararat/Morse today tonight at 7:45 p.m.
Boys hockey
PORTLAND — Devin Hannan’s goal late in the second period proved to be the winner as South Portland/ Freeport/Waynflete opened with a 4-3 victory over Brunswick (0-1) at Troubh Arena on Saturday.
The Red Riots (1-0) received a goal each from Gus Lappin, Aiden Schifano, Mitchell Adams and Hannan in the win.
Michael Deveaux paced the Dragons with two goals, both assisted by Jacob Doring. Jared Hummer had an unassisted goal, while netminder Riley Kirk turned away 24 shots.
Liam McGibbon had 19 saves in the win.
