From the Journal Tribune: “La Kermesse, the city’s annual Franco-American festival, returns this week. Now in its 23rd year, the four day festival will again offer specialties like pork pie and crepes. Entertainment will include traditional French songs, bands, comedy acts and fireworks. … The Zoppe Family Circus, a European-style circus, will perform in its own tent Friday, Saturday and Sunday, presenting clowns and acrobats … ”

From the Biddeford-Saco Journal: “An attempted break at the Camp Ellis Rod and Gun Club, Ferry Beach was reported today to Saco police. Capt. Robert Foran said that Officer John Smith checked the property at 7:30 last night again at 9:30 p.m. when he discovered the evidence of an attempted entry. Smith reported that four windows were broken, glass in a door was smashed and a lock on the door pried and twisted.”

100 years ago

From the Biddeford Daily Journal: “The regular monthly meeting of the men’s good will Bible class at Old Orchard was held at the Methodist Episcopal church, Old Orchard, Monday evening at 8 o’clock. It was voted to commend the action of the present board of selectmen in regard to the suppression of some of the objectionable business that has been carried out in former years and to support said officials in their effords to improve the conditons prevailing in Old Orchard.”
