In this July 24, 2014 photo, children play in a pool at Fuji Kindergarten designed by Japanese architects Takaharu and his wife Yui Tezuka in Tachikawa city, outside of Tokyo. Like other designs by rising architects, the couple’s Fuji Kindergarten also illustrates the idea of fusing the outside with the inside. The walls of the doughnut-shaped building are of glass, and they open as sliding doors, making the courtyard an integral part of the child’s every day. The spherical roof is a playground, for the children to run around and around. The couple often uses the roof for living space, and they swear sitting side by side on a sloped surface, like a riverbank, as opposed to facing each other across a table, is good for human relations.
