TOPSHAM

Topsham firefighters responded to a small fire at Mt. Ararat High School Thursday morning.

Interim Fire Chief Mike Labbe said firefighters were called to the school at 5 a.m. and found smoke in the school’s kitchen.

Labbe said a motor in a heating unit had burned up, due to a mechanical failure.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and unplugged the unit.

Labbe said there was no damage to the building. Crews remained on scene for more than an hour ventilating smoke from the building.
