Ruth Lillian Brill ( nee Timmons), of Woolwich, Maine, age 88, died peacefully on December 22, 2017. Ruth grew up in Glenolden, Pennsylvania, the second of four children of Franklin LeRoy and Lillian Rapalje Timmons.

Ruth worked at the Atlantic Refining Company in Philadelphia. After moving with the family to Maine in 1973, she worked for Hart, Stinson and Lupton in Bath, for the Bath city manager, and for Bath Iron Works — after several years transferring to New Jersey, working there in a liaison office for BIW.

The caption for Ruth’s senior photo in her high school yearbook summed up her personality with two remarks that anyone who knew her would agree were accurate descriptors all through her life, stating Ruth was “willing to do for others constantly” and there was “ never a dull moment after those remarks of hers.”

Her infectious smile and always optimistic outlook spread to everyone around her. She enjoyed being the designated batter in the family baseball games, with various kids as runners. She worked two jobs when necessary to make ends meet, and she helped others whenever the need presented itself. She taught her children the value of hard work and putting others first. She made dinners from “scratch” while her children were growing up and taught them how to cook and bake. Her “Brill’s Buns” became famous in the Midcoast and always put smiles on faces.

Eventually, Ruth retired from BIW and worked from home doing medical transcription work. When she came back to Maine she became a member of the United Methodist Church in Bath, and made many friends there. Ruth’s natural and frank/ open approach to life and people brought something special wherever she went. Loved by all she knew, Ruth will be missed.

Ruth was predeceased by her husband John ( Ted) Brill and two brothers.

She is survived by a sister, Marge Schaeffer; children, Steven Brill, Kenneth Brill, Nancy Carleton, Debra Brill; grandchildren, Andrea, Jennifer, Kristina, Amanda, Emily, Brandon, Daniel, Lauren; and greatgrandchildren, Adelaide, Davian, Ariana.

There will be a memorial service at Bath United Methodist Church on Saturday, Jan.13th at 3 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Bath United Methodist Church, 340 Oak Grove Ave., Bath, ME 04530.
