Ron Richard

Richard’s benefit

A benefit for an acute stroke victim, Ron Richard, is set for 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, at the American Legion Post 197 on Conant Street (Route 25).

“We will be selling tickets at the door for $5 and will be serving a spaghetti dinner with a $5 donation,” said Richard’s sister, Carol Dalpee.

The event will also include live music and 50/50 raffles of items donated by local businesses and “loved ones,” she said.

Richard, a lifelong Westbrook resident, suffered the stroke on Oct. 4, Dalpee said.

“Since that time Ron has been fighting very hard to overcome the physical issues he has been left with,” she said. “We all believe the struggle Ron is enduring at this time is temporary and we all expect him to recover.”

Blood supply short

The American Red Cross says blood and platelet donations are urgently needed.

A drive will be held 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at Olympia Sports, 5 Bradley Drive, in Westbrook. To make an appointment, call the Red Cross 1-800-733-2767.
