BIDDEFORD — Gloria Anne Roy, 72, of Biddeford passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Jan. 18, 2018 after a brief illness at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.

She was born on March 19, 1945 to Jerome (Jim) Deschambault and Rolande (Dube) Deschambault in Biddeford. She attended Biddeford High School graduating in 1964.

For many years she worked as a welder at Pratt-Whitney. Welding was her passion in life and she, as well as her family, are quite proud of her accomplishments in that arena. Over the years she gained complete respect as a dependable worker from the group of men who were her coworkers and was often referred to as Rosie the Riveter as she closely resembled that iconic World War II figure which stood for hard-working women everywhere.

Gloria was a well-rounded woman who thoroughly enjoyed art (especially painting) crocheting, sewing and writing in her journals. She was also a fabulous cook who had the unique ability to create an exquisite meal out of nothing at all.

She is preceded in death by a brother, Jerome (Jerry) Deschambault who most certainly welcomed her in with open and loving arms. She missed him dearly.

Gloria is survived by her loving husband and friend of more than 50 years, Richard R. Roy of Biddeford; her son, Richard Roy of Dayton; her daughter Kelly Anne (Roy) Neptune of Indian Island; grandsons Jacob Roy of Biddeford and Sage Neptune of Indian Island; granddaughter Jessica Santiago of Orono; her special sister twin Pris Bouthot who never left her side; brother Denis Deschambault; sister Nancy Hood and sister Claudette Fifield; as well as many in-laws, nieces and nephews all of who were very special to her.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Southern Maine who provided a great deal of compassion, care and comfort to our beloved mother, wife and friend. We are forever grateful to all of them.
