After graduating from Columbus High School, Jim joined the U.S. Navy where he served on active duty for 23 years and six years in the Reserves, retiring from the Navy in 1981. He then worked at Goodwin’s Chevrolet in Brunswick for 37 years and served as a volunteer fireman for the town of Brunswick.
He enjoyed traveling with his family and watching the Patriots.
Jim is survived by his wife of 53 years, Celeste Pope; two daughters, Jodie Loeschner and her husband David of Topsham and Hollie Pope of Brunswick; two grandchildren, Kylie Wild of New York and Cameron Loeschner of Topsham; two brothers, Kenneth Pope of South Dakota and Robert Pope of California; and several nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his brother, Vernon Pope.
Private services will be held at a later date. Interment will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maine Parkinson Society, 359 Perry Road Bangor, Maine 04401.
