CORINTH (AP) — Police in Maine have charged a man with arson and attempted murder after his house was destroyed by fire.

WABI-TV reports police charged 65-year-old Fred Roberts, of Corinth, on Wednesday following the fire. Police say Roberts poured gasoline inside his home to start the blaze, while his companion was upstairs.

Authorities say Roberts was standing outside of the home when firefighters arrived at the scene. Officials say Roberts’ companion, 70- year-old Barbara King, was seriously injured after she jumped out a second-story window during the fire.

It wasn’t immediately known if Roberts had a lawyer and his phone was not working.
