Born in Lisbon on April 6, 1954, Tony was a son of the late Tom Taylor and Margaret Ott. He was raised in Topsham and graduated from Brunswick High School in 1973.
Following high school, Tony was proud to enter the workforce. As a very hard worker for many years, Tony never forgot his first job at Howard Johnsons. While he had a lot of fun working there, he learned the value of hard work and applying yourself to excel in whatever field you work in. This is a trait he passed along to his daughter and many friends and family.
During his career, Tony worked with Bath Iron Works for over 30 years. He started as a welder and worked his way up through many levels encompassing a vast knowledge of how a ship should be built. His skill and hard work guided him throughout his career, where he retired from Sayres and Associates as an Engineering Analyst. The last ship he worked on was the USS Zumwalt, something that he was very proud of.
Tony was able to achieve what many people strive for – a well-rounded work/life balance. He was able to couple his hard work and dedication with a love for family and friends, experiences and life. Simply put, Tony knew how to have fun. He loved animals, traveling, fine foods and the ocean. Tony was always eager to try new things and he could charm the pants off anyone he met with his quick wit.
A self-taught handyman, Tony would go out of his way to help his friends and family. He is remembered by many for lending a helping hand, fixing something, or even guiding them through a project over the phone. He used many of these skills to maintain and work on his motorcycles and Corvette, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
Always keeping an open mind, Tony loved to learn from his experiences and the people he met. In true Tony form, he would share his knowledge with others, often teaching with patience, guidance and thoughtfulness.
Above all else, Tony’s greatest love was his daughter. Tony was Amy’s biggest cheerleader and gave her his love unconditionally. The lessons he taught her and the love he had for her were unmatched. Amy, along with all of Tony’s family and friends, will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Tony is predeceased by his sisters, Helen Taylor Withrow and Andrea Leska Delair.
He is survived by his beloved daughter, Amy Taylor of Portland; sister, Heidi Mandel of Georgia; devoted partner of 8 years, Barbara Gardner of Portland. In addition, Tony is survived by his nieces and nephews; Brandon, Breauna, Duane, Kendall and Tyler.
