Support Bath’s Success

It is always a bet, and there is no doubt that meaningful measurement, metrics, are required. There is, however, no doubt that this is a program that must be renewed.

There is no doubt that this is a continued, long term investment in a skilled workforce of craftsmen building the future of American ships. That future includes traditional trades along with composites engineers, metallurgists, IT and database engineers.

There is always risk but in a state where local control of tax revenue is limited, we need to take the long-term bet. Current and future shipbuilders will benefit. Our children here in Bath will benefit, and Maine will continue to lead.

Adapt and Enjoy Climate Change

I’m not an educated man but I know that the earth is moving away from the sun. I also know that when I move away from heat I cool off. So my question why is the earth supposedly heating up? When I was in school scientists were saying we were heading to global cooling. The earth has been changing since time began and and will even after we are long gone. We as mere mortals can’t change this. To all the Chicken Littles that think the sky is falling, I say adapt and enjoy. We have more of a chance of being annihilated by a nuclear catastrophe from North Korea, Iran and radicals than climate change.

‘No Regrets’

The headline on a Page 1 article in The Times Record of Jan. 29, “No regrets,”refers to then- Gov. Angus King reply in 1997 as to the $60 million tax gift to General Dynamics.

I will remember what a great American writer, philosopher, adventurer, cowboy and friend to Presidents — Will Rodgers — (to paraphrase) said: “We as Americans have the best bought government in the world,” and that was said 80 or more years ago.

Today, it is as viable as it was than. General Dynamics is a major player in that ownership. Sen. Angus King and the other 99 Senators owe their jobs to those and their votes to them. Don’t ask Mainers for a tax break for a company with assets worth than more the citizens.

Best for them to sit there saying nothing, than to say something, removing all doubt.
