OXFORD (AP) — Maine State Police say a man from the town of Mexico is charged with threatening the newly appointed sheriff in Oxford County.
Police say 56-year-old Joseph Salatka was charged with one count of terrorizing after he made threats against Oxford County Sheriff James Theriault. Theriault was appointed by Gov. Paul LePage after Wayne Gallant resigned amid a sexting scandal.
Police say Salatka made the threat in a phone call to the state fire marshal’s office. Officials alerted state police, who reside in the same building.
Salatka had an air pistol on him when he was taken into custody in Rumford. He was held at the Oxford County Jail; it was unknown if he had a lawyer.
