It was so close.

The Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships came down to the final race in both the boys and girls competition on Saturday at Bowdoin College.

In the girls competition, Mt. Ararat needed a solid showing in the 4 x 200-meter relay to capture the KVAC title. A second-place finish behind Messalonskee was good enough as Mt. Ararat ended the day with 130 points, a 3.5-point difference on runner-up Messalonskee.

The boys side was even closer. Brunswick and Mt. Ararat battled it out all day, leading to the exciting 4 x 200 finale to decide it. Mt. Ararat won the race in 1:37.17, with Edward Little in second and Brunswick in third in 1:39.05. Just as it seemed that the Dragons were going to have to settle for second place, the Red Eddies were disqualified for an illegal hand-off, moving Brunswick to second in the race.
