PORTLAND
The Morse Unified basketball team picked up its first playoff victory, slipping past No. 7 Deering/ Portland, 43-36, in a South preliminary matchup.
The Shipbuilders, the No. 10 seed in the South, improved to 6-3 and visit No. 2 Westbrook on Friday at 4 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
Brandon Barone led all scorers with 12 points for Morse, while Zoe Walker added 11, and Isaac Smith and Ben Hinds six points apiece.
