BIDDEFORD  — For those looking to tantalize their tastebuds, a visit to Biddeford and Saco next week will be just the ticket. Biddeford + Saco Restaurant Week starts Sunday and continues through Saturday, March 17.

Special events throughout the week will highlight local bars and restaurants. All are invited to submit an entry form at participating restaurants for a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to the downtown restaurant of their choice.  

The week commences with the fourth annual Community Soup-er from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Pepperell Center at 40 Main St. The Community Soup-er features a dozen local restaurants that have donated a diverse selection of soups, and local fifth-grade students who have donated hand-made ceramic bowls. The cost of the ticket, available only at the door for $10, includes two servings of soup as well as a roll from Reilly’s Bakery or Biscuits & Company biscuits. Guests are encouraged to enjoy their soup in the bowls made by the students for an additional $5 donation. All proceeds will be donated to the Stone Soup Food Pantry this year. 

Special events during the week include:

• Biddeford’s newest gourmet restaurant, Elda, will offer a prix fixe menu throughout the week. The three course meal featuring local flavors is $30, and there’s an option to also purchase wine pairings.
• On Wednesday, New Morning Cafe will offer “New Morning Nibbles” that includes free tastes of their breakfast and lunch offerings.
• On Thursday, Local Libations Night will provide a chance to meet the brewers, distillers, sommeliers, and martini-maker throughout the two cities’ downtowns. No tickets are necessary, as revelers pay as they go. A map that includes the participating establishments is on the restaurant week website.
• The second annual FYOOD iron chef-style cooking competition will take place Saturday, March 17, inside Biscuits & Company. Teams of chefs will compete in front of judges and an audience for a trophy, a basket of Maine-grown goods, and serious bragging rights. Tickets are available for chef teams, judges and audience members at www.fyoodkitchen.com/event.

More than a dozen establishments are offering specials throughout the week, from reduced priced shakes at The Hamburger Stand in Biddeford to a “buy one get one free” slice of cake at the award winning Fern Leaf Bakery in Saco. Tacos, pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches, or even want to try a pre-dinner drink and appetizer (known as “Apertivo”) can be foundat Biddeford’s newest restaurant, Yeto’s.
