BATH — Joan Elizabeth Fitzherbert, 87, a longtime resident of Bath passed away peacefully at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Joan was born in Bangor Maine on April 27, 1930, the daughter of Leon L & Mary (Griffin) Philbrook. She grew up in Bangor and proudly graduated from John Baptist High School.

Joan was employed at Health- Tex for over 19 years and Bath Iron Works and belonged to the Marine Draftsman Association for over 10 years before retiring. Working outside of the home she called part-time work. To her… her job was being a mom.

She raised 6 children all on her own. She was always very devoted to her family. There wasn’t anything that she wouldn’t do for her family. “Nana” as she was known to everyone, always looked forward to family gatherings with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by all those that loved her.

She is predeceased by a brother, Charlie Philbrook and a sister, Julia “Nina” Leeman

Nana leaves behind her 6 children, Mary Footer of Bath, Cheryl Smith and her husband David of Topsham, Barbara Belanger and her husband Dennis of West Bath, David Fitzherbert and his wife Melody of Arrowsic, John Fitzherbert and his fiancé Jay-lynn Cheetham of Bath, & Peggy Grace and her husband Mike of Norway; 9 Grandchildren; 7 Great Grandchildren; and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be sent to Make-A-Wish of Maine, in honor of her grandson, Kyle, who passed away, 477 Congress Street, Suite M1, Portland, Maine 04101

A burial service will be held in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Bath.
