The Westbrook American reported on March 26, 1958, that the 71-year old Brown Street School in Westbrook was destroyed in a fire and the 73 students resumed classes at Bridge Street School.

A Hiram woman wrote to the paper that she was resubmitting a contest entry in a different format because she had dropped the original and her baby goat that lived in the house with her ate it.
