The columnist, Whit Hobbs wrote, “Success is waking up in the morning, whoever you are, wherever you are, however old or young, and bounding out of bed because there’s something out there that you love to do, that you believe in, that you’re good at—something that’s bigger than you are, and you can hardly wait to get at it again today.”

Every now and then, do you think back to a more genteel time and remember “the good old days?” I do.

Over the years, as the winds of time blow, there have been many changes globally and in our state. The past represents a bumpy road for our area, but organizations moved out of the past and into the future.

Armed with confidence and with freedom of opportunity, businesses made it a priority to introduce measures to restore successful and smoothly functioning cities. There are always enormous hurdles and risks to overcome especially with all the new changes and regulations.

Concepts like respect, fairness, honesty and the well-being for all (employers, employees and customer) deliver the blueprints for true success. Local cities have evolved into a diversity of businesses. It takes a vision and hard work to succeed.

Ongoing research indicates that three of the biggest challenges facing business people today are: time pressures, financial pressures, and the struggle to maintain a healthy balance between work and home.

Helpful advice from J. Paul Getty: “The individual who wants to reach the top in business must appreciate the might of the force of habit—-and must understand that practices are what create habits. He must be quick to break those habits that can break him—and hasten to adopt those practices that will become the habits that help him achieve the success he desires.”

Times keeps changing. It is an ongoing process. The past is behind us and the future is still out in front. Our lives keep changing, we must accept the challenge. It is a worthy challenge.

Also, Maine leads the nation! MOre than 40 Maine towns have now joined the Age-Friendly Network. An “age-friendly” community is one that provides the services and supports that make the town, city or neighborhood a great place for people of all ages.

It is wonderful for our towns to support the desire of older people to remain in their homes and communities as they age. This is a foundational goal of NAFC and AARP Maine is ready to get us started.

At approximately 77 million people, did you know that baby boomers are the most talked about generation in the country? They are not the stereotypical “senior” citizen. Many boomers are still quite active and energetic.

Baby boomers are expected to heavily influence the entire world for decades to come. More boomers live in Maine than any other state.

What is the glue that holds all these businesses and organizations together? One, is team spirit. It drives everyone to do their best work.

As a team member each individual makes his or her contribution, and together they succeed.
