BIDDEFORD — Firefighters are battling a fierce blaze at 45 Hill St., a multi-unit dwelling located in a densely populated area of the city’s downtown core.

By 9:15 a.m. the blaze had jumped to the roof of a neighboring property and had damaged the fire escape, said Journal Tribune Executive Editor Ed Pierce from the scene.

He said 45 Hill St. is completely engulfed in flames.

Pierce said firefighters are advising people to avoid the area as they fight the blaze.

It is unclear at this time if there are injuries.

Assisting Biddeford firefighters this morning are their counterparts from Saco and Arundel departments.
