NEW YORK — Didi Gregorius hit a pair of three-run homers and drove in a career-high eight RBI, and the New York Yankees overcame five strikeouts by Giancarlo Stanton in his first game in pinstripes to beat the Tampa Bay Rays 11-4 on Tuesday in Aaron Boone’s chilly first home opener as manager.

Starting his fourth season as Derek Jeter’s successor as the Yankees’ shortstop, Gregorius had four hits and walked, setting a major league record for RBI by a player in a home opener. He also set a Yankees record for RBI by a shortstop.

He doubled and scored in the second, and his first homer put the Yankees ahead 4-1 in the third against Chris Archer. After New York’s bullpen wasted a three-run lead for the second straight game, Gregorius drove an 0-2 pitch from Austin Pruitt (1-1) into the second deck in the seventh. He blooped an opposite-field two-run single to left in the eighth.

When the Yankees agreed to acquire Stanton from Miami on Dec. 9, Gregorius tweeted : “Hey Skip am i still batting 4th ???”

That’s exactly where he was, following Aaron Judge and Stanton in the batting order.

Stanton was booed in the eighth inning after the first five-strikeout game of his career.

New York improved to 3-2 under Boone, who took over when Joe Girardi was fired after a decade in charge. Tampa Bay has lost four straight since beating Boston in its opener.

ROYALS 1, TIGERS 0: Jake Junis took a shutout into the eighth inning, and Kansas City won at Detroit  for its first victory of the season.

On a chilly, rainy day – with snow a possibility on Wednesday – the Tigers and Royals breezed through nine innings in 2 hours, 17 minutes. Jorge Soler, who still doesn’t have a major league hit since July 2, drove in the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the second.

Junis (1-0) allowed three hits in seven-plus innings. The 25-year-old right-hander walked one and struck out six before being lifted following Mikie Mahtook’s leadoff single in the eighth.

Justin Grimm finished that inning, and Kelvin Herrera struck out two in a perfect ninth for his first save.

Matthew Boyd (0-1) was sharp for the Tigers, allowing a run and four hits in six innings.

BLUE JAYS 14, WHITE SOX 5: Josh Donaldson and Aledmys Diaz each hit a two-run homer, and host Toronto won its fourth straight.

Donaldson went 2 for 4 with three RBI. Diaz had three hits before leaving after six innings because of back spasms.

The Blue Jays have hit at least one home run in each of their first six games.

Avisail Garcia, Tim Anderson and Yolmer Sanchez hit solo home runs for the White Sox. Chicago has 12 home runs over its first four games.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

METS 2, PHILLIES 0: Matt Harvey allowed one hit over five sharp innings in his encouraging season debut, and New York beat visiting Philadelphia.

Todd Frazier snapped a scoreless tie with a run-scoring double in the sixth. Travis d’Arnaud added a two-out RBI single that chased Ben Lively (0-1), who hit Yoenis Cespedes with a pitch to begin the rally.

BRAVES 13, NATIONALS 6: Freddie Freeman and Preston Tucker each hit a three-run homer, and host Atlanta handed Washington its first loss.
Freeman and Tucker each delivered a big blow as Atlanta scored four times in each of the first two innings.

INTERLEAGUE

MARINERS 6, GIANTS 4: Mitch Haniger hit a two-run single and Kyle Seager also singled in a run in a big first inning as Seattle spoiled San Francisco’s home opener.

Marco Gonzales (1-0) allowed three runs and six hits in 61/3 innings.

Joe Panik hit a solo homer and Evan Longoria added a two-run shot for the Giants, the first with his new team.

Panik homered leading off the fourth, his third of the year to account for all San Francisco’s runs to that point. San Francisco became the first team in major league history to score its first three runs of the year on solo homers by the same player, according to Elias. It was Panik’s first homer at AT&T Park since Aug. 28, 2016.

The Mariners answered right back in the fifth, getting Robinson Cano’s RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Guillermo Heredia.

Austin Jackson added a sacrifice fly in his home debut for the Giants, and new right fielder Andrew McCutchen made a snazzy diving catch in the ninth.

Ty Blach (1-1), filling in for injured ace Madison Bumgarner, was done after 41/3 innings having allowed 10 hits and six runs. He tossed five scoreless innings in a season-opening 1-0 win at Dodger Stadium last Thursday.
