SACO — The Thornton Academy boys lacrosse team picked up an 11-10 win in double overtime over defending Class B state champion Cape Elizabeth thanks to a game-winning goal from senior Jack Webb on Friday evening.

Webb scored just 45 seconds into the second overtime to give the Golden Trojans the win.

CJ LaBreck scored five times to lead Thornton Academy, which improved to 3-0 on the young season.

Massabesic 11, Yarmouth 7

The host Mustangs jumped out to a 4-goal lead at halftime and never looked back as they improved to 2-0 on the year.

Massabesic, which won the Class A state title last year, would get four goals and two assists from Morgan Pike as they took down the 2017 Class B state runner-up.

Madi Drain added four assists and two scores for the Mustangs, who also got three goals from Skylar Renaud and one apiece from Cailyn Forrester and Logan Champlin.

Track & Field

Several Seagulls place at quad meet

The Old Orchard Beach track and field teams both finished fourth in quad meets held at Lake Region on Friday, but several Seagulls would earn top-5 finishes.

Ava Clark led the OOB girls with a second-place finish in the high jump. Megan Niedzwiecki finished third in both the discus and shot put, while teammate Kaitlyn Cote was third and Cierra Albert fourth in the 400 meters.

On the boys’ side of things, Tucker Beal was third in the 1,600 meters, while Trevor Grenier took bronze in the 300 hurdles and Dan Geyer was third in the discus. Seamus Roche came home in fifth in the triple jump.
