BIDDEFORD — It’s been a special year for the Biddeford girls lacrosse team so far this season as the Tigers have celebrated milestone after milestone in 2018.
Entering Wednesday’s game with Deering, the Tigers had already taken down their biggest rival for the first time ever and had two players join the exclusive 100-point club.
The Tigers continued their historic campaign on Wednesday as they cruised to a 19-8 win over Deering and would get to celebrate two more milestone moments in the process.
Biddeford junior Paige Laverriere, who already reached 100 career points earlier this season, would become the school’s all-time leader in career goals on Wednesday. The standout’s third goal of the day — she finished with five — would send her into the BHS record books as she passed 2016 Biddeford graduate Taylor Turgeon, who had 96 career goals.
“I couldn’t have done it without my team, obviously,” said Laverriere, who didn’t realize she had secured the school record at first. “When I first got it, I actually didn’t really think about it too much. I was just like, ‘OK, we’ve got to keep it going guys,’ and everyone’s like ‘you just broke the record!’ I was like ‘what? I did?’”
Laverriere, who now sits at 99 career goals, was thrilled to have Turgeon on hand to celebrate the occasion.
“It meant a lot,” said Laverriere. “She was my captain all freshman year for all my sports, so it was pretty great.”

Biddeford coach Caitlin Albert was happy to have Turgeon at Waterhouse Field to present Laverriere with the school-record ball.
“It was special. It worked out perfectly for Taylor to be here to present her the ball,” Albert said. “I think it means a lot to Paige because when Paige was a freshman she was looking up to Taylor. That’s how she developed that goal was to be just like Taylor.”
Laverriere’s record-breaking goal was actually the second special moment of the game. Biddeford junior Hailey Allen became the third Tiger this season to record her 100th career point earlier in the contest.
Allen, who is known for dishing out assists to Laverriere and Biddeford’s other top scorers, needed three points to reach the milestone on Wednesday. The standout’s 100th career point would not come on one of her smooth passes to a teammate as Allen decided to take it herself with a goal midway through the first half.
“It was pretty big because I’ve been looking forward to it all week and I’ve been counting down … and then once coach told me today that I (needed) three more I was like, “OK, cool I got it,’” said Allen, who had two goals and two assists in the win.

Albert was happy to see Allen get some well-deserved accolades.
“It’s awesome for Hailey. I’d say 50 percent of her points are on assists which is really rare,” said Albert. “She’s kind of like the low-profile player where she doesn’t always get all the attention but she’s the one working hard when no one’s looking.”
Laverriere was thrilled to share the moment with her best friend.
“That was really cool. She’s my best friend so we were trying to work together to get each other points, so when she got it I was obviously super happy for her,” said Laverriere, who also had an assist on Wednesday.
