SACO — A truck carrying boxes of nails accidentally dropped several boxes onto the Maine Turnpike near the Saco exit on Friday morning, causing a significant road hazard for motorists.

Drivers reported that the boxes of nails burst open and spilled onto the highway, resulting in numerous vehicles sustaining flat tires while driving on the turnpike there.

Turnpike maintenance crews were able to clean up the spilled nails in the roadway, and traffic has since returned to normal around the Saco exits.
