TOPSHAM — The Mt. Ararat Middle School eighth-grade softball team had a busy week, playing three games.

Against Tripp, the Eagles captured a 10-3 win. Gabby West led the nine-hit attack with three base-knocks, while Jazzy Huntsman and Lillie Singleton each had two hits. Megan Reed and Emily Bontatibus added a hit apiece. Avery Giles scored two runs.

West pitched four innings on five strikeouts, one walk and four hits. Reed went the final three on seven strikeouts, one hit and one walk.

A 6-3 loss to rival Brunswick followed. The Eagles had their chances, outhitting the Huskies, 11- 10. But a pair of Brunswick home runs turned out to be the difference, along with a four-run third inning.

West pitched three innings with six strikeouts, two walks and seven hits. Huntsman pitched a 1-2-3 inning, and Reed threw three frames with five strikeouts, four walks and two hits.

West had two doubles, and Huntsman, Morgan Ruff and Giles all had two singles apiece. Reed, Tori Hersey and Bontatibus each had a single.

In a 5-1 win over Lewiston, Huntsman, West and Reed combined for nine strikeouts.

West’s bat lit up in the fifth with a crushed ball over the center fielder’s head for an RBI triple. Singleton continued her hitting streak with a double and a single, along with an RBI.. Huntsman had two hits, two stolen bases and two runs scored. Reed had a single and an RBI, and Giles had a single.

Kaylee Bergeron made some great plays at second base, and Jayden Austin made a nice catch in center field for Mt. Ararat. Bontatibus threw out a runner trying to steal at third base and Reed put on the tag. Giles made a solid play at third and threw home to Huntsman, who was catching, for the tag out.

The Eagles host Oxford Hills on Thursday.
