BRUNSWICK — Irene Lydia (Poliquin) Berube died unexpectedly at her home on Thursday May 3, 2018.
She was born in Portland, on August 16, 1946, the daughter of Roland Albert Poliquin and Sophie Marie Richards. Irene moved to CT in 1963 and made her home there for 53 years. She returned to Brunswick in the fall of 2016.
She was married to Raymond G. Berube on August 1, 1970 in Glastonbury, CT. They were married for 13 years. After that she was in a long and loving relationship with Harold “Butch” Eroh who died on November 17, 2005.
Irene was formerly employed as a financial analyst at The Aetna Insurance Company in Hartford CT. She and Butch had two businesses, an oil delivery company and a pressure washing business. Most recently she was employed as a customer service representative at Honeywell. She was president of her Condo association before she and Butch built their dream home in Meriden, CT.
Irene loved her each of her homes and enjoyed keeping everything neat and in perfect order. She enjoyed vacationing in the Caribbean, taking cruises and socializing with family & friends. While living in CT, she would ask anyone visiting to bring a cooler of Italian sandwiches, as she could not buy them there. During her time back in Maine she was eager to drive to Harpswell for fresh crabs which she would pick out with her cousins for sandwiches, and she greatly enjoyed playing cards with her cousins on Saturday evenings. Her favorite expression, for which she will be remembered, was – “Have a sparkling day”.
She was pre deceased by her parents, her brothers: Leo Poliquin, Michael Edward Poliquin & Roland Albert Poliquin and her sisters: Cecile (Poliquin) Harrington King, and Theresa Sophie (Poliquin) Harrington, and her former husband, Raymond G. Berube. She is survived by her brothers Richard H. Poliquin and Gerard A. & his wife Suzanne (Labree) Poliquin all of Brunswick, Maine. A special aunt, Juliette Dionne of Brunswick, along with many cousins including Pauline Williams and Ann Marie Hatmaker who were very close to her. There are also many nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews and great, great nieces & nephews.
The family will hold a private celebration of life at a future date. St. Jude’s was very special to Irene; memorial contributions may be made to: St. Jude’s Children’s hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
