Brunswick High School graduation is Thursday, June 7, at 7 p.m. at Watson Arena on the campus of Bowdoin College.

BRUNSWICK HIGH SCHOOL CLASS OF 2018 TOP 10

Kyra Teboe

Kyra Teboe is the Valedictorian for Brunswick High Schools graduating class of 2018. She is the daughter of Dana Teboe and Brenda Mower-Teboe of Brunswick. A National Merit Scholarship Finalist, Kyra will be attending Harvard University in Cambridge MA where she plans on enrolling in a 5- year dual degree program to receive a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Music from the New England Conservatory for Jazz Studies. She has been the recipient of the Yale Book Award, the Davis Award, and the Rensselaer Medal Award. Kyra is Vice President of the National Honor Society, member of the Tri-M Honor Society, and Spanish Honor Society. She is also a viable member of the Varsity Track and Field team, Thursday Jazz Ensemble, and Jazz Combo which includes being the recipient of both an Honorable Mention and a Merit Award by the National Young Arts Foundation. Kyra is also a member of the All-National Jazz Ensemble and first chair in All-State Jazz. Other music honors include: first chair for the tenor saxophone in District III and also first place in Bagaduce Young Composers’ Festival. Volunteer work includes being the accompanist for all BHS choirs and for the annual BHS musicals. She is the recipient of the Service Above Self Award; Young Maine Volunteer Roll of Honor and the Girl Scout Silver Award. In Kyra’s spare time she enjoys spending time outdoors, waterskiing, biking, composing music, reading, running and writing.

Ethan Boll

Ethan Boll, the son of Anna Jordan and Christian Boll, is the salutatorian for the Brunswick High School class of 2018. Ethan has excelled not only in his academics but also at one of his passions, music/theatre. A lover of music Ethan has been a dedicated member of both our Wind Ensemble and Honors Wind program, competing in many competitions to include All- Eastern, All- Nationals, District and State festivals. Acting/singing has also played a strong role in Ethan’s high school career as a member of our BHS Players where he also helped build sets and was a strong proponent of actors developing their physical prowess on stage by hitting the gym. Academic awards include The Rochester Institute of Technology Innovations and Creativity Award, The Bausch & Lomb Award, The Williams Book Award and the Latin Underclassmen Award. A member of our Chamber Choir and baseball team, Ethan counts as one of his proudest moments the “opening night of Les Miserables.” Another achievement that Ethan is most proud of is his acceptance to Princeton University where he will attend this fall.

Zachary Grant

Ranking 3rd in the Brunswick High School Class of 2018 is Zachary Grant, the son of Joey and Melissa Grant. In the fall, Zach plans to attend the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he will study mechanical engineering. Zach has been inducted into the National Honor Society and has been the recipient of the Clarkson University Award for Leadership. Due to Zach’s taking high school courses while he was in middle school, he exhausted the offerings in some academic departments and has taken several Advanced Placement courses through the state’s Department of Education’s AP4All program; these were courses not offered at Brunswick High School. Zach has been a member of the golf and baseball teams and served as captain of both; he has also been a member of the math team and the robotics club. He has also taken part in BHS’s Educational Leadership Program where he has worked with students and teachers at Harriet Beecher Stowe School and he has taken part in First Tee of Maine. In his spare time Zach enjoys hiking, playing golf and doing CrossFit.

Fiona O’Carroll

Ranked 4th at Brunswick High School class of 2018, Fiona O’Carroll is the daughter of Kevin O’Carroll of Brunswick. She was admitted early decision to Bowdoin College where she plans on studying Biochemistry/Pre-Med. Fiona is a member of the National Honor Society, Math team, and the Varsity Swimming and Tennis teams. She has been the recipient of the Bard Book Award (highest English honor), the Social Studies Department Award in her sophomore year, and the St. Michael’s College Book Award as well as the Science Department Award her senior year. Volunteer work includes working at the Midcoast Hospital emergency department as well as being a tutor for NHS. During Fiona’s spare time she enjoys photography, hiking, kayaking and travel. Growing up Fiona attended 10 schools between the U.S. and Ireland, which she considers home.

Brian Hess

Brian Hess, the son of Andrew and Andrea Hess, has earned the rank of 5th in the Class of 2018. At this time he is undecided about where he will attend college in the fall but plans to study chemistry. Brian has been inducted into the National Honor Society and is a Presidential Scholars nominee. He has been very active in Boy Scouts for a number of years and has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Swimming has been a big part of Brian’s life, too. He has been a member of the BHS swim team as well as the Bath YMCA’s Longreach team. Brian has swum in competitions all over the country. He has also been a member of the ski club.

Holly Black

Holly Black is the daughter of Martha and Mitchell Black of Brunswick and is ranked sixth in the class of 2018. A transcript replete with AP/Honors level courses, Holly has excelled in mathematics and science leading to her intended major of Engineering. Holly has been among a small but growing number of females with an interest in BrainSTEM related activities such as “Girls Who Code” and possesses a strong interest in pursuing further study around this area. Accolades received for her strong academic performances include the Science Department Award, the Harvard Book Award and induction into both the National and Latin Honor Societies. Holly has also been a consistent, hardworking athlete throughout her high school career. A three sport athlete Holly has been a varsity member of our basketball, lacrosse and cross country teams always displaying a never give up attitude and earning the coveted “Heart of the Dragon Award” her senior year as voted on by her peers. Holly has also volunteered her time at our local Brunswick Parks and Recreation programs and was a member of the Action and Math Teams. Holly will be attending Cornell University in this fall.

Cordelia Horch

Earning the rank of 7th in the class is Cordelia “Cordy” Horch, the daughter of Hadley and Fred Horch. Cordy plans to attend Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, in the fall where she will study environmental science. Cordy has been inducted into the National and French Honor Societies and was the recipient of the St. Thomas University Book Award. Cordy has been an important member of the jazz band where she plays the upright bass and stage crew and has been very active in Interact and student government. She has logged over triple the number of community hours needed through her volunteering through Interact and at the Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program. Cordy has also been a member of the prom committee, the Speech and Debate team and the tennis team; however, athletically, she loves rowing with the Merrymeeting Rowing Association. In her spare time, Cordy enjoys listening to and making music (she plays guitar), reading and baking.

Claire Johnson

Claire Grace Johnson the daughter of Kara and David Johnson has earned the rank of 8th in the Class of 2018. Claire is leaning toward attending McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in the fall; at this time she is undecided on a major. Claire has been inducted into the National Honor Society and Tri M Music Honor Society. She has been the recipient of the Dartmouth College Book Award, the Clarkson University High School Achievement Award, the Music Student Leadership Award and the English Department Award. She has been active with the Speech and Debate Team, Girls Who Code and the Book Club. Music is a very important part of Claire’s life and she has been a part of the choral music program at BHS all four years of high school, auditioning for and earning a space on both the Chamber and Treble Choirs. In addition, she has been a member of the student organized and run female a cappella group, Vice Versa, for which she has served as the director. In her spare time, Claire enjoys hiking, reading, singing and composing and also watching Jeopardy.

Jennifer Doiron

The daughter of Daniel and Diane Doiron of Brunswick, Jennifer (Jenny) Doiron’s post-secondary plans include attending Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts with an intended double major of Biology and Secondary Education. Described by her teachers as “conscientious, enthusiastic, curious and good natured”, Jenny has taken this schools college preparatory tract curriculum to include numerous AP/Honors level classes. For her strong academic efforts Jenny has received the 2016-17 Psychology Award; College of the Atlantic Book Award and the Phi Beta Kappa Certificate of Recognition. Jenny was also a National Honor Society inductee and acted as an NHS Tutor. Jenny was a mentor at Seeds of Independence assisting at-risk students during their transition to high school. Jenny was also a member of the BHS Cheering Team, commanding the respect of her peers as captain of the team. Other interests include reading, spending time with friends watching movies and enjoying runs with her dog.

Quinn Solberg

Quinn Solberg is the oldest son of Christine and Troy Solberg of Brunswick. Ranked 10th in Brunswick High School’s graduating class of 2018, Quinn was admitted early decision to University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia PA where he intends on majoring in Bioengineering. He is a member of the National Honor Society, the Spanish Honor Society as well as Tri-M Honor Society. Quinn is also a participant of the Varsity Ice Hockey team, Jazz Band, and the Merrymeeting Community Rowing team. He was named a nominee for the Presidential Scholarship Program, an Award Recipient for the AP Scholar Program and an Award Recipient for the George Eastman Young Leaders program. A lifelong Boy Scout, Quinn will be earning his Eagle Scout Award this spring. During his spare time he enjoys traveling, rowing and spending time at his family camp.

Elias Goodrich

Valedictorian Elias Goodrich resides in Bath with his mother Jennifer Sandberg and in Georgetown with his father Allen Goodrich. As an AP Scholar with Distinction, Elias is president of the National Honor Society, has received the Phi Beta Kappa Award, Yale Book of Quotations, Semper Fidelis Award for Musical Excellence, and numerous academic excellence awards for outstanding achievement. As class president and captain of Morse Ocean Bowl team, Elias also participates in the Green Club and SCLC. He volunteers his time at the Bath YMCA as a summer camp counselor and is an animal caretaker at the Coastal Humane Society. Elias is also employed at Bath Area Family YMCA. He enjoys exploring big cities like Boston, New York, and Montreal. Elias’s plan after graduation is to attend Tufts University or Northeastern University to study Civil Engineering. His hopes and dreams for the future include traveling around the world and raising awareness on specific problems such as poverty, hunger, and global climate change.

Abigail Minott

Salutatorian Abigail Minott resides in Bath with her parents Lisa Hall and Rick Minott. Abigail has received the Williams College Book Award, achieved high honors, and numerous academic excellence awards for outstanding achievement. She is a member of National Honor Society and has participated on the soccer and track teams. Abigail has volunteered her time coaching 6th and 7th grade Bath Middle School girls soccer team. She enjoys running, watching Netflix, and listening to music. Abigail plans to attend Gordon College to major in Psychology and minor in Youth Ministry. Her hopes and dreams for the future include working in a field where she is able to help as many people as possible.

Sarah Meyer-Waldo

First Honor Essayist Sarah Meyer-Waldo resides in West Bath with her parents Julie Meyer and Jonathan Waldo. As National Honor Society Vice President and Vice President of her class, she is the recipient of the Wesleyan University Book Award,, achieved high honors, and numerous outstanding academic achievement awards. Sarah participates in ballet and intramural floor hockey and volleyball.. She has performed various community service activities at Midcoast Youth Theater since seventh grade doing everything from advertising, building sets, designing props and backdrops, and as assistant director. Sarah has also volunteered at her ballet school assisting with teaching pre-ballet class. She has been employed by Midcoast Youth Theater as choreographer for summer productions. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys baking, spending time with friends, arts and crafts, and planning various projects. She plans to major in Mechanical Engineering with a possible minor in Graphic Design. Her hopes and dreams for the future include to always be engaged with a new challenge, and to help people in whatever she decides to do.

Leah Totman

Second Honor Essayist, Leah Totman resides in Phippsburg with her parents John and Karen Totman. As an AP Scholar, Leah is a member of the National Honor Society, has received the Saint Anslem College Book Award, KVAC All Conference Swimmer Award, and has received many academic awards for outstanding achievement.. She participates on the field hockey, swim, lacrosse, and tennis teams. Leah has volunteered her time with Midcoast Hunger Prevention Program, Freshman Community Service Day, and Shipbuilders Committed. She is employed by Sebasco Harbor Resort. In her spare time, Leah enjoys reading, watching Netflix, and going to concerts and the beach. She plans to attend college with a major in International Business/ Relations. Her hopes and dreams for the future include traveling the world and visit every continent, gain a masters or Phd in her field of study, and find a dream location to settle down and begin a family.

Christina Bowman

Third Honor Essayist Christina Bowman resides in Woolwich with her parents Glenn and Tanya Bowman. She is the recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award and has received numerous academic awards for outstanding excellence. Christina is a member of the National Honor Society. She participates on the field hockey and tennis team, Shipbuilders Committed, Green Club, Class Secretary of 2018, and Big Brothers Big Sisters. Christina volunteers her time with the Youth Education and Sports Day, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Blood Drive at Morse and Freshman Community Service Day. She is employed by The Birches Lakeside Campground in Litchfield, Maine. Christina enjoys hanging out with her friends and family. She plans to attend college in Maine and spend four years on the pre-medical track, then go to medical school . Her hope and dream for the future is to become a doctor.

Caiden Fraser

Caiden Fraser resides in West Bath with his parents Dennis and Trina Fraser. He is the recipient of the Student Sage Award, KVAC All Academic Award, and has received various academic awards for outstanding achievement. Caiden is a member of the National Honor Society. He participates the soccer and basketball teams. Caiden volunteers his time refereeing soccer and tutoring students. He was employed at Olympia Sports. In his free time Caiden enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys and Boston Celtics, working out, and hanging out with friends. He plans to attend either Umaine or University of Central Florida to study Biology. His hope and dream for the future is to become a well known radiologist.

Paul Ouellette

Paul Ouellette resides in Woolwich with his parents David and Esme Ouellette. As an AP Scholar with Honor, he is the recipient of the Dartmouth Club of Maine Book Award and the KVAC All Academic Award, and and has received various academic awards for outstanding achievement. Paul is a member of the National Honor Society, and participates on the soccer team and track and field. He has volunteered his time as a member of the North Woolwich Methodist Church on the audiovisual team and at the Bath Area Food Bank. Paul is employed at Landcrafters. In his free time he enjoys configuring his Linux operating system and hacking on free software. Paul plans to attend college to study Computer Science. His hopes and dreams for the future include learning a lot in college and meeting people who share the same interests.

Alex Gates

Alex Gates resides in Bath with his parents William and Kimberly Gates. He is the recipient of the Rensselaer Medal and the Clarkson Leadership Award. Alex has been a high honors student and received various academic awards for outstanding achievement. He is a member of the National Honor Society, SCLC, Ocean Bowl Team (State Champs), and Quiz Show Team. Alex volunteers his time at the Bath Food Pantry. He is employed by Camp Bishopwood in the summer. In his free time he enjoys spending time with the best dog in the world, Jeb!. Alex plans to attend Bowdoin College to study Science, then wherever life takes him. His hopes and dreams for the future include making a difference in people’s lives and being remembered.

Jack Ouimette

Jack Ouimette resides in Woolwich with his parents Robert and Debbie Ouimette. He is the recipient of the Elmira College Key Award, a scholastic gold key in flash fiction and novel writing, the Richard Aldridge English Award, and has received various academic awards for outstanding achievement. Jack has been an honor and high honor roll student. He participates on the Morse Drama Stage Crew, Creative Writing Club, Think Tank, School Literary Magazine as editor, and National Honor Society. Jack has volunteered his time and participated in Out of the Darkness Walks. He is employed by Georgetown Pottery. In his free time he enjoys reading, writing, being outdoors, and spending time with his pets. Jack plans to attend Oberlin College to study Creative Writing. His hope and dream for the future is to one day become a full-time writer.

Nicole Jewett

Nicole Jewett resides in Woolwich with her parents Deirdre and Kent Jewett. She is the recipient of the Elmira College Key Award, Coaches Award for Cheering, and has received various academic awards for outstanding achievement while being a honors and high honors student. Nicole participates on the Fall and Winter cheering teams. She has volunteered her time at the Bath Fire Department Open House, the Candy Cane Train, the Westlake Tournament, and the State Track Meet. Nicole is employed by Lake Pemaquid Campground. She enjoys gardening, swimming, traveling, cooking, and spending time with family. Nicole plans to attend University of New Haven in Connecticut to study Forensic Science. Her hopes and dreams for the future are to graduate from college, move back home, and get a job in the area.

What I admire most is that he takes such pride in his job. He has every second of every class planned out and goes out of his way to make sure each student understands all concepts. I strive to have his level of devotion when I emerge into the workforce.

Ms. Libby has always had a huge impact on my life. She has always been an inspiration to me with her strong and steadfast personality and her constant positive outlook on life and she will always be someone I strive to be like.

I’ve always appreciated Mr. Brewer for making sure I’m on top of things and for being a serious, patient teacher that I could always rely on for a second opinion.

Kieren Barnes, is the child of Kerry Barnes of Richmond and Matthew Barnes of Brunswick. Kieren is the Valedictorian, and has been a member of the Civil Right Team and National Honor Society. They will be attending Bennington College in Bennington, VT to study Languages/Linguistics.

Magna Cum Laude

Destiny S. Anair, is the daughter of Richard and Melanie Anair of Richmond, and is the Salutatorian. Destiny has been President of National Honor Society, Key Club, Class Officer, as well as a 4-year participant in girls soccer, cross country and track. In the fall, she plans to attend Husson University to pursue Physical Therapy.

Kylie E. Temple, is the daughter of Ryan and Kristen Temple of Richmond. Kylie has been a member of Madrigals, band and Bobcat drama club throughout her high school career, as well as an a. Kylie will continue her education at University of Maine, studying Music Performance/Music Education.

Leanne R. Bryant, is the daughter of Kimbely Dutton of Richmond and Jeff Bryant of Clinton. She plans to attend Aveda Institute in Augusta to study Esthetics.

Constance S. Calderwood, daughter of Eric and Lynette Calderwood of Richmond, has participated in band, Madrigals and cross country while at Richmond High School. She plans to attend Appalachian Bible College to study Elementary Education.

Noah J. Lebel, son of Curt and Christy Lebel of Richmond, will attend University of Maine Orono and Maine National Guard to study Criminal Justice.

Molly D. Tomascik, daughter of Christopher and Laurie Tomascik of Richmond, has participated in Civil Rights Team and Class Government. She is pursuing Occupational Therapy at Husson University in the fall.

Sydney N. Underhill-Tilton, daughter of Jeffrey and Cheri Tilton of Richmond, has participated in National Honor Society, Class Government, Key Club, as well as 4 year member of the soccer, basketball and softball teams. Sydney will attend Maine Maritime Academy to study Marine Engineering Operations.

Olivia L. Winokurzew, daughter of Olef and Rhonda Winokurzew of Richmond, has participated in Class Government while at Richmond High School. She will be attending the University of Southern Maine to study Business Administration.
