BREWER — Kathryn Austin hit a two-run single in the first inning to start top-seeded Brewer on its way to a 6-0 win over third-seeded Oceanside in the Class B North softball championship game Wednesday at Brewer High School.

Shaky defense proved costly for Oceanside (17-3), as Brewer took advantage of five errors to score six unearned runs.

Austin scored on a squeeze bunt by Jayden Keefe in the fourth inning to make it 3-0, and the Witches (19-0) added three runs in the fifth.

Oceanside got its runs in the seventh inning. Jessica Watkinson had two hits, including an RBI double, and Hannah Moholland hit two doubles.

Brewer advanced to its first state final since 2008, when it won the Class A championship. The Witches will play Greely on Saturday at Brewer High.
