FREEPORT — Freeport firefighters extinguished a burning scrap metal pile at 13 Allen Range Road on Thursday morning. The fire was reported at approximately 7:30 a.m. by staff at Daves Junkyard, a metal recycling facility and salvage yard.
Freeport Fire Chief Charlie Jordan said crews fought the fire under “some pretty warm conditions.” Temperatures had already climbed into the 80s Thursday morning.
Jordan estimated an area of 75- feet-by-75-feet burned at most.
Fire fighters were at the scene for a little over an hour. No injuries were reported.
