DRESDEN
The cause of a fire that destroyed a Dresden home Monday afternoon is still unknown.
The fire, reported at approximately 3:18 p.m. at 19 Calls Hill Road, drew firefighters from a dozen towns.
Heavy fire was spilling from the front windows and back of the old farm house when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to Dresden Fire Chief Steve Lilly.
No one was home at the time of the fire. A dog escaped through the dog door, but a cat died in the fire.
Firefighters were challenged by high humidity, and getting enough water and fire personnel to battle the blaze. Lilly said firefighters were at the scene until after 9:30 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
The home is owned by Linda Hermans and Richard Goldman. Lilly said the house was insured and the owners told him they had a place to stay.
“They basically lost everything,” he said.
The state fire marshal’s office will continue working to determine the cause of the fire.
