LISBON

The Maine Department of Transportation will start a repaving of Route 196 in Lisbon on about Aug. 6, according to town Public Works Director Thomas Martin Jr. He said the project may impact traffic, but delays are expected to be minimal because of the scheduling.

“They’ll be doing most of the work at night,” said Martin. “It’s not always easy to do, so we really appreciate them doing that.”

Paving on 196 will start at Main Street and stretch a mile to Capital Avenue. Work will also be done at Frost Hill Avenue and extend about a quarter of a mile. An initial schedule released by the MDOT calls for repaving to wrap up by about mid-September.

This road project will have a lesser impact on traffic that the state transportation department’s current Mill Street bridge project. That has caused traffic to be rerouted on a 2.5-mile detour around the work.

That project — which includes some road construction in addition to the bridge work — is expected to be completed by mid-October. The town also is taking advantage of this work, and expects to install water and gas utility upgrades during the period.
