SKOWHEGAN — Caroline Edith Sargent, age 71, passed away Friday, August 3, 2018 at the Tissues Country Estates in Athens, ME.

Caroline was born in Portland on December 12, 1946, a daughter of Earl Clarence and Harriett Mae (Cressey) Payne and attended Portland, schools.

She married Lawrence Groves in 1965 in Portland, and he died in 1985. She later married Merle Sargent in Westbrook in 1999, and he died that same year.

Caroline worked and lived in Freeport for many years. She worked as a Dietary Aid and Cook at Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for many years. She moved to Brunswick in 2004.

She is predeceased by her parents; two brothers, Richard Payne and Fred Payne; and four sisters, Mary Groves, Barbara Payne, Grace Strout and Nancy Payne.

She leaves behind two sons, Larry Groves of Brunswick, and Shawn Groves of Augusta; two daughters, Brenda Groves of Norridgewock, and Teresa Gordon, and her husband, Myron of Skowhegan; a sister, Linda Brennan of CT; seven grandchildren, Amanda Groves, James Groves, Kris Groves, Kelli Wooten, Brandon Groves, Alicia Groves and Kayla Groves; and six great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be from 5 to 7PM Thursday, August 9 at the Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick, where a funeral service will be held at 11AM Friday. Burial will follow at Grove Cemetery in Freeport. Condolences can be expressed to the family at www.brackettfuneralhome.c om
