FALMOUTH — Republican Cathy Nichols, who was originally a candidate in House District 43, announced she is now seeking the Senate District 25 seat, which represents Falmouth, Chebeague Island, Cumberland, Gray, Long Island, Yarmouth, and part of Westbrook.

Nichols lives in Falmouth and will oppose incumbent Sen. Cathy Breen, D-Falmouth, this fall.

“Senate District 25 needs a leader who understands the importance of maintaining a strong tax base and supports policies that give a hand up, not just a hand out,” Nichols said. “I am grateful for the opportunity to run for state senate, and I look forward to meeting the voters and earning their support this November.”

Nichols’ decision to run for the Senate leaves Democratic candidate Edward Crockett unopposed in House District 43, which represents portions of Falmouth and Portland.
