Falmouth skater third in national competition

North Atlantic Figure Skating Club home club skater Alexandra Albano-Fontaine placed third in the 2018 Theater on Ice nationals competition in Geneva, Illinois. Albano-Fontaine is a 12-year-old rising seventh-grader who is an individual freestyle skater, an ice dancer and a member of a theater on ice team. Albano-Fontaine competes with the Colonial Figure Skating Club’s “Broadway Blades” team and is the youngest member of the intermediate-level team based in Boxborough, Massachusetts. The Broadway Blades competed against 17 other teams to earn their third-place finish.

North Atlantic Figure Skating Club, located at the Family Ice Center in Falmouth, is a member club of U.S. Figure Skating. Since 1998, the club has supported figure skating as a competitive sport and healthy lifelong activity. Through Learn to Skate USA, the annual ice show, and exhibitions, all levels of skaters are showcased. Members compete throughout New England, the U.S., and internationally.

N. Yarmouth student a summer intern for senator

Jordan Merrifield, a North Yarmouth native, has been awarded a summer internship in the office of Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine. Jordan is the son of Frank and Jennifer Merrifield of North Yarmouth.

“Jordan is a great student and a hard worker, and I am delighted to welcome him to my Washington, D.C., office,” said Collins. “It is always a pleasure to give Mainers an opportunity to become actively involved in the legislative process and to serve the citizens of Maine.”

Merrifield will be a senior at Gettysburg College in the fall, where he is majoring in political science and minoring in business. After graduation, he hopes to continue working in Washington, D.C., in the field of politics.
