SANFORD — The Summer Block Party and Classic Car Show originally scheduled for Friday night in Sanford has been canceled because of thunderstorms in the forecast for this evening.
“We have learned from the past cars won’t show up if there is a chance of bad weather,” said Sanford Springvale Chamber of Commerce President Richard Stanley.
He said there are plans to host the car show during the Great Pumpkin Festival on Sept. 29.
Saturday’s events, including Sanford on Tap beer and food truck festival, set for 2 to 6 p.m. on Roberts Street, are scheduled to go on as planned.
Also Saturday, the Cedar Mountain Bluegrass Band will perform on stage at the Sanford-Springvale Historical Museum, 505 Main St., at 7:30 p.m.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
