“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God.” Romans 12:2

Surrender

Most of us view surrender in a negative way. It means we have lost the battle and we are forced to give ourselves over to the power of another. But what about the battle that may be going on inside of us? Many of us are at war with ourselves without even realizing it. Our need to be in control often clouds our wisdom and we fail to see the options that could change our lives emotionally, spiritually, and creatively. The need to be in control is rooted in fear. We may fear the opinions and expectations of others, and we remain enslaved by our own worries. But surrender may be more about liberations than defeat. Surrendering our lives to God is not weakness. By surrendering our lives to God we are empowered to succeed in what he is calling us to do. If God is going to do his most important work in us we must surrender to his will. Surrender is not bondage, oppression or allowing others to manipulate us or abuse us. It is about truth. It is about giving ourselves over to the one who wants the best for us.
