BATH — Midcoast Community Alliance says more than 600 families in Regional School Unit 1 attended the first RSU1 Set for Success on Aug. 19. During the event, students were able to pick out backpacks and school supplies and receive haircuts. Twenty-six local organizations presented information about about school groups and activities, food programs, mental health information and other topics. The event was part of Midcoast Community Alliance’s ongoing You Matter work, a movement geared toward ensuring students have what they need to be successful in school. Nearly $30,000 was raised from caring community members and from sponsorships. Visit mcamaine.org/set-for-success/ for more information.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
