SHAPLEIGH – Ferne L. Penney, 80, of Shapleigh passed away at home, surrounded by her family on Monday, Sept. 3, 2018.

She was born on April 15, 1938, the youngest of eleven children, to Harold and Edith (Littlefield) Day, in Sanford where she grew up and attended the Hamlin School in Springvale.

She went to work at a young age and was employed in a dress factory in Sanford, and Pioneer Plastics.

In 1954 she married Thomas Penney and they have been inseparable since. Together they had a son, Thomas Penney.

She and her husband owned and operated their own antiques business, Penney’s Antiques.  They dealt in antique automobiles, and jewelry, and were collectors of anything old.

Ferne enjoyed attending car shows, traveling and making friends from many different states, including the local show at Blast from the Past Diner in Waterboro.  She also loved to shop, going to parties, and dancing.

She loved all of her family and extended family and she will be dearly missed.

Her survivors include her husband of 64 years, Thomas Penney; her son, Thomas Penney and his wife Sue, of Shapleigh; a grandson, Brad Penney and his wife Marissa of Shapleigh; and a granddaughter, Tricia Penney of Waterboro; two great-granddaughters, Madison and Mayson Penney; and a great-grandson, Bode Penney; two sisters Betty Hachey and Shirley Roux; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, Sept. 7, from 4 to 6 p.m., with a funeral service at 6 p.m. at Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main St., Springvale.
