BRUNSWICK
Expos geared toward senior citizens are coming to Brunswick and Freeport in the coming weeks.
The 2018 People Plus Senior Health Expo will be held at the Brunswick Recreation Center on Neptune Drive at Brunswick Landing on Sept. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Admission is free and the first 500 people at the event will get a free swag bag. Free activities will be held throughout the morning including a flu shot clinic and health screenings, pickleball sessions, live music and book signings, among other activities.
Last year’s event saw more than 700 participants, according to People Plus, the Brunswick area’s senior community center.
This year, public transportation will be available to the Brunswick Recreation Center during the event courtesy of The Brunswick Explorer.
“Maine has the highest percentage of older adults in the country, and the Mid Coast is where this population is growing the fastest,” states a news release from People Plus. “The People Plus Senior Health Expo brings together a variety of resources for this increasingly important segment of our community. The Expo provides an excellent opportunity to learn about products and services in the categories of medical services, fitness and health, technology, legal, community services, housing/respite care, and finance.”

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
