SPRINGVALE — Looking to learn how to buy a house; grow a hobby into a business; online learning; job hunting tips; family money skills; self-care skills or yoga, Community Workshops, set for Oct. 2 and Oct. 3, can provide that information.

The two-day event offers numerous workshops about life skills, education, job training and support services, organizers say. All are invited to attend these free workshops, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., both days at Sanford Community and Adult Education classrooms in the Anderson Learning Center at 21 Bradeen St. in Springvale.

The workshops will be taught by SCAE instructors, former students and representatives from organizations including Strategies for a Stronger Sanford, Goodwill Workforce, York County Community College, Empire Beauty Schools, Manpower, Sanford Institute for Savings, Opportunity Alliance and York County Community Action Corp., among others.

SCAE Director Allen Lampert said the idea for the event came from SCAE staff member Lisa Blanchette, who envisioned hosting a conference for SCAE students modeled after the conferences educators attend for professional enrichment.

“We strive to provide our students with real-life, applied learning opportunities,” Lampert said. “Sponsoring this conference is one way SCAE can support our students and give them a unique experience as learners.”

Lampert said also realized that other members of the community might enjoy the array of classes, so events are open to all. Refreshments will be served.
