ARROSWIC — Arrowsic Selectman Bill Savedoff will resign at the end of the year for personal reasons, the town announced Tuesday.
“We’re really disappointed,” said Selectwoman Sukey Heard. “He’s amazing. He’s really done some really good stuff for the board. It’s hard.”
Heard declined to elaborate on Savedoff’s decision, saying only that Savedoff felt he couldn’t continue as a selectman for personal reasons. Savedoff did not respond to a request for comment.
Savedoff will continue serving on the three-person board with Heard and Selectwoman Michele Gaillard until the end of the year.
Residents will replace Savedoff at a special town meeting Dec. 6. The new member’s term would start Jan. 1.
Although not required, the town asks that any nominations be submitted by Nov. 26 so that voters have time to think about the candidates and reach out with questions.
Savedoff was elected to a second three-year term at the annual town meeting in June. As selectman, Savedoff spearheaded an effort to reorganize the town office, culminating in the approval of four new part-time positions and small raises for existing town employees.
“Bill’s many skills and abilities have added considerably to the Select board’s effectiveness and we are grateful for his years of service,” said the select board in a statement.
