SANFORD – An idea to help those who might need a hand, sparked by some local churches several years ago, continues on Monday with Communities Care Day at North Parish UCC Church, 895 Main St. in Sanford.
There will be free meals, a free store, haircuts and more from 8:30 a.m. To 1 p.m.
Organizers say a free breakfast will be served from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. and a free lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Offered all day and entirely free will be blood pressure screenings, haircuts by Snip & Tone, dental health with Jill Kelly and reflexology with Mary Ann Ratteree.
Activities include making healthy snacks, a childcare play area so parents may have time to check out resources, arts and crafts for children and a children’s reading corner with books.
The free store will provide bedding, blankets, clothing, toiletries, winter coats and boots.
Organizers say the event is a day of serving the community by meeting some of the needs of those who are experiencing challenging times

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
