SACO — Flora I.M.R. Nichols, 86, of Saco, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, at St. Andre  Healthcare Facility in Biddeford.

She was born in Lynbrook, New York on July 17, 1932, a daughter of Arthur and Ella (Paxson) Werner. She attended high school her freshman year in Lynbrook and graduated from East Rockaway High School, Class of 1950. She also attended New Paltz Teaching School.

Flora was employed by Doubleday Book Company in Long Island for 15 years and also worked for Royal Insurance Company and Exte Bank in Long Island for several years.

While out one night at a bowling alley, she met the love of her life Robert Nichols, through mutual friends .  They spent 60 years together, living on Long Island for 20 years. In 1995, they retired and moved to Saco.

While in Saco, she worked at Ames Department Store for 5 years. She also volunteered for the Saco Food Pantry for many years, helping her husband Robert.

Flora enjoyed working with numbers in math and reading. She also liked knitting and crocheting. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister Doris Thistel and her two brothers, Donald and Charles Werner.

She is survived by her husband Robert Nichols; brother-in-law Charles Wilkinson and his wife Anne; her sister-in-law Barbara Nichols; and several nieces and nephews.

A Visiting Hour will be from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Cote Funeral Home Chapel, 87 James St., Saco. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Biddeford.
