HALLOWELL — Gavin Elliott Gabrion, 34, of Hallowell, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018.
Gavin, the son of Patrick and Vicky Gabrion of Hallowell, was born on Aug. 19, 1984, in Augusta, Maine. He attended Hallowell schools and later earned his GED with a near perfect score. He had a wide range of jobs, from doorman at a gentlemen’s club to cleaning paper mills throughout the nation.
Besides his parents, Gavin is survived by his sister, Sophie Gabrion, of Waldo, Maine; paternal grandmother, Mary Gabrion of Ithaca, Michigan, and several uncles, aunts and cousins.
Gavin was highly intelligent and had a lifelong love of learning. He lived on his own terms, no matter the cost, and had a strong sense of what was right and just. He was fiercely loyal and he loved deeply.
Arrangements and services will be provided at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, Maine. A visiting hour will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, from 3-4 p.m., with a memorial service to follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
Because of Gavin’s love of books and his thirst for knowledge, those wishing may make donations in his memory to Hubbard Free Library, 115 Second St., Hallowell, Maine 04347.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
