WEST YARMOUTH, Mass. — James J. Footer Sr., of West Yarmouth, passed away on November 4, 2018, at the age of 80.
He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Beliveau) Footer and father of Melanie Footer of Milton, James J. Footer Jr. and Edward Footer, both of Chatham.
Jim was born in Bath, Maine, in 1938 to Edward A. and Annie Beatrice (MacLellan) Footer. He grew up and attended schools in Maine and received an associate’s degree from Burdette College in Boston. For many years he worked as a realtor and owner of Sullivan Footer Realty.
He loved boating from the time he was a kid in a rowboat on the Kennebec River.
He got a spot on a merchant marine ship and sailed “behind the Iron Curtain” and visited Yugoslavia. Over the years, Jim owned many boats and had many happy adventures with his family. He will be missed.
Longtime member of Rotary, Jim was a past president of the Millbury-Oxford Rotary Club and a charter member of the Rotary Club of Yarmouth. He volunteered for “Meals on Wheels.”
